Hey friend,
We’ve spent a lot of time discussing why you shouldn't let your current job be the center of your universe.
The 'we’re a family' talk is almost always a trap designed to make you over-extend yourself for a company that would replace you in a week if they had to.
But at the same time, try not to treat your current job like a waiting room.
I see so many people get stuck because they’re only focused on the exit.
They spend all their energy looking for the next thing and completely ignore the opportunities sitting right in front of them.
And I understand why they do it, but that can actually limit your options a lot.
Think about it this way:
When you stand out at your current job you aren't just doing it for the company.
You’re doing it to get into rooms with people who can offer you something better.
If you’re just job-hopping and searching for new openings (especially if you aren't a huge fan of "networking" or posting on social media all day) you might find yourself fading into the background.
Doing the same tasks for the same pay while everyone else seems to be moving on without you.
I’m not saying you should work yourself to death.
I’m just saying that going a tiny bit further than everyone else is usually enough to get you noticed.
And that recognition leads to a better internal reputation which leads to better networking which eventually leads to you getting scouted for a job that you actually want.
I know this just sounds like more work you have to do but staying complacent and hoping that a better life falls into your lap isn’t a reliable strategy.
Keep looking for that new role and keep building your presence.
But take a look at your current office today.
Someone on your team has the connections you need to reach the next level. If you stand out to them now, they might be the ones who open the door to your dream job later.
