There’s an undeniable shift happening in the job market right now.
Most people are spending their time complaining about it, analyzing why it's happening, or hoping it goes back to "normal.”
But I believe it’s much more important to talk about what YOU can do about it.
We can’t change the "rules" of the game.
We can’t force the market to be what it was two years ago.
So the real question is:…
How do you stop being just another resume and start becoming the "obvious choice" for the roles you actually want?
And from everything I’m seeing, the answer is to do the same thing I did a few years ago:
Start treating your profession like a mini-business.
Now, if your immediate response to that is a sense of dread... I get it.
You’re probably thinking:
“Megan, I’ve already spent so much time in school. I’ve put in the hours on side projects. And now I have to build a business on top of all that?"
But I promise you, it’s actually much, much easier than it sounds.
The work needed to outpace 90% of other job-seekers isn't another full-time job, it’s just a few small, daily tasks.
Remember: You aren't competing with actual corporations.
You’re competing with the rest of the workforce. And most of them aren't even thinking about this, let alone doing it.
Just set a 10-minute timer each day and execute a simple plan:
Write a quick post about a problem you solved.
Interact with a peer’s work.
Reach out to someone in a role you admire.
Or just clean up a few lines on your profile.
You’ve already done the hard part by building your skills. Now, let’s just make sure the market actually knows they exist.
